Bid Spotter On Track For More Cups
Quality Sydney stayer Bid Spotter added another feature win to his impressive race record when he surprised punters with an eye catching win in Saturday's listed Manion Cup at Rosehill.
Prepared by trans-Tasman horseman Graeme Rogerson, Bid Spotter made it two stakes race Cups in three starts when he held out Above Average for a strong victory.
Rogerson's stable foreman Roger Elliott said the son of Redoute's Choice was on track for his main goal for the preparation.
"The Sydney Cup is his goal, for sure," Elliott said.
"He relished the give in the track here. Last start at Launceston the track was too hard - conditions were much better for him this time around," Elliott added.
The $31 pop was ridden to victory by Melbourne Cup winning hoop Michael Rodd.
"He's good at the distance and had the softest run of any horse in the race," Rodd told reporters after the race.
"I didn't have to go for him until the 400 metre mark which is a bit unusual in a staying race."
"I was able to creep up from being 10 lengths off at the 1200 metres to being about two lengths off at the 600 metres without spending a penny."
By Redoute's Choice and from the Group One winning mare Isolda, Bid Spotter was one of the most admired yearlings at the 2007 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Rogerson, bidding to Hollywood actress and socialite Tara Reid, went to $850,000 for the colt at the famous sale. It seemed Bid Spotter would be a suitable name for the Baramul Stud graduate.
Bid Spotter has now earned almost $500,000 from his 28 starts and the best could still be to come for the well bred staying galloper.
