No Reserve On Scone Stud's Gold Coast Mares

Two mares by the prolific Danehill sire Commands foaled in 2005 are among the 38 which comprise an unreserved dispersal by the Scone district located Kitchwin Hills stud which is a part of the prestigious 739 lot catalogue put together by Magic Millions for the broodmare section of their annual National sale to be conducted at the Gold Coast running from May 25 to June 8.

The first of these mares is Skeena, a sister to Kanzan, a winner for Sheikh Mohammed and Peter Snowden at Hawkesbury on Saturday April 30 of the $150,000 The Darley Crown, and half-sister to Sydney winner and Newcastle Spring Stakes runner up Giresun. They are from Cherry Lodge, a winner by Grand Lodge, sire also of the dam of Mascareri, a winner also for the Mohammed camp on the Hawkesbury program.

The other Commands mare in the Kitchwin Hills consignment is Madam Commandant, a daughter of the Marscay mare Annunciare, a relation of stakes winners Quadrante Love, With Me, Accomplice, Alert Me, Techniques and You’re Canny.

Kitchwin Hills’ two mares are among eleven by Commands in the catalogue. He is a sire whose progeny  succeed in all conditions, growing webb feet when the going is heavy, and who is likely to become a formidable broodmare sire.

Besides those by Commands, the Kitchwin Hills collection available at the Gold Coast National sale includes daughters of Sunday Silence, Tale of the Cat, Fusaichi Pegasus, Encosta de Lago, Last Tycoon, Woodman, Lion Hunter, Woodman, Thunder Gulch and Johannesburg.

The Kitchwin dispersal mares are among 300 contributed to the sale by Hunter Valley consignors.The Widden stud leads the way with 47 lots – the biggest draft in the catalogue, neighbouring Baramul has 20 listed and others from the region with good selections are Amarina (16), Attunga (7), Coolmore (15), Darley (14), Donnybrook (11), Emirates (9), Glastonbury (20), Newgate Farm (15), Rothwell Park (13), Segenhoe (9), Turangga (9), Vinery (15), Willow Park (8) and Yarraman Park (18).

The second biggest draft is 45 lots from another New South Wales vendor, Emerald Thoroughbreds, Mandalong. Also representing the State is John Singleton’s Strawberry Hill stud (9), Tara NSW Pty Ltd, Higher MacDonald (12), Bowness (7) and Mane Lodge, Sutton (7).

Most of the mares in the two biggest consignments from Queensland vendors, Darlington Stud, Greenmount (35 lots) and Racetree, Innisplain (33), are by New South Wales sires, including Danehill, Redoute’s Choice, Royal Academy, Tale of the Cat, Canny Lad, Zeditave, Canny Lad, Octagonal, Commands, Snippets, Catbird, Woodman, General Nediym, Danehill Dancer and Danzero.

Other leading Queensland vendors are Almavale (7 lots), Eureka (10), Ferny Glen (8), Glenlogan Park (9), Heinrich Bloodstock (8), Lakeview (11), Lyndhurst (14), Oaklands (9), Oakwood (9), Royston (7), Sentinel (7), Superior (8), Twin Peaks (12), Wattle Brae (11), Robin Wise (12) and Yandina Lodge (9).

The broodmare section of the Magic Millions National sale at the Gold Coast is to be held over three sessions, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday May 29, 30 and 31. It is to preceded by a three session 603 lot National Weanling sale on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday May 25, 26 and 27 and followed by the National Yearling sale on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday June 5, 6 and 7 (673 lots) and National Racehorse sale on Wednesday June 8.

Over 2000 lots will be covered by the four catalogues.
