Danehill Sire’s Spectacular Strike Rate

Two winners and a short head second from his only runners on the program on Friday at one of the strongest New South Wales country race clubs, mid north coast hinterland centre Taree, was the start of a remarkable three days of achievement for the Danehill sire Floral Dynamite.

Standing on $3000 at Ian McRobert’sTareena stud at Tinonee upriver from Taree, Floral Dynamite followed up just missing the trifecta of wins on Friday with a third placegetter at Newcastle on Saturday and then a winner at New Zealand’s Ashburton Cup meeting on Sunday.

What makes the performances remarkable is the three winners and two placegetters, all 4-year-olds, were not only the only runners over the three days by Floral Dynamite, but they are among only seven foals (from eight mares), all raced, from his first stud season. As the two placegetters had each won, he has five winners from seven runners to his credit.

Highlight of the Floral Dynamite representation at Taree was the powerhouse win of the gelding Floral Insight in a Benchmark 60 handicap over 1000m (0:58.38). He has raced 17 times for four Taree wins, one by four lengths, four seconds and seven thirds.

Trained on Taree by Jim Delaney, a former owner of a small stud near Muswellbrook, Floral Insight races for his breeders, Jim and his wife Celia. They also bred the other Floral Dynamite winner, Lil Miss Dynamite, and her dam, but she gallops out of the neighbouring Bob Milligan stables.

Analie’s Daughter, a filly, who was having her tenth outing when she went within a couple of centimeters of providing Floral Dynamite with trifecta of winners at Taree, had earlier won three races, including one each at Taree and Port Macquarie.

Trained at Muswellbrook by Jan Bowen, Nitroson, the Floral Dynamite gelding who placed at Newcastle on Saturday, has won twice at this centre and been placed at Gosford and Wyong, while the New Zealand winner Hayley Rose has also been successful twice.

Sold in New Zealand as a yearling for $1,000, Hayley Rose was inside her dam Dance Parade when she was purchased for $4,500 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare sales.

Floral Dynamite, a 16.1 hands bay, has much to offer in the way of breeding and ability. A $650,000 Inglis Easter yearling got by Danehill from the classically bred imported Darshaan mare Caraniya (IRE), dam of eight winners, he did his racing at a high level in Hong Kong. He won six races from 1200m to 1800m and included in seven seconds an appearance in the Group 1 Hong Kong Gold Cup.
