Cup Winner Settles Dispute

Galiazani's strong win in the City Tattersall’s Club Cup over 2400m at Randwick on Saturday looked smoothing balm for the long running dispute between big spending Nathan Tinkler and trainer Anthony Cummings, one which reportedly was settled privately last week.

When young coal industry magnateTinkler established his emerging Patinack Farm breeding and racing empire, he initially used Cummings as his buyer at the yearling sales. One of the early acquisitions knocked down to Cummings was Galizani, now a 5-year-old mare who on Saturday’s showing looks capable of winning at Group1 level. Perhaps the Sydney Cup in the autumn.

Raced by a Tinkler Patinack Farm syndicate and in the care of his private trainer John Thompson, Galizani has contested 15 races for four wins, including the Cup and a Listed event at 1800m. Her only attempt at Group1 was a fifth in the Queen Elizabeth at Randwick.

On breeding, she appears likely to appreciate races of 2400m or further. For one, she is by the Coolmore shuttled Sadler’s Wells English and Irish Derby winner Galileo, a sire now being lauded as the greatest in the northern hemisphere from Ireland use.Two of his Ireland sired foals came out and finished second and third in the 2007 Melbourne Cup won by Efficient, a son of Galizani’s mother’s illustrious sire Zabeel.

A $140,000 Easter yearling bred by Wynyarra Stud Pty Ltd, Melbourne and sold through Kia Ora stud, Scone, Galizani is the only runner from Zahani, a non winner got  by Zabeel from Danarani, a Danehill winner of the AJC Flight Stakes and STC Tea Rose Stakes, runner up in the Caulfield Thousand Guineas and AJC Silver Shadow Stakes and third in the SAJC Australasian Oaks.

Danarani’s dam Vaguely Modest was a Canadian Group 3 winning half-sister by Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner and classic sire Vaguely Noble to Danzatore, a Northern Dancer used at Patrick Hogan’s Cambridge stud in New Zealand. Cambridge houses Zabeel.
