Veteran Stallion Put Down
Shortly after Sister Madly (by Redoute’s Choice) was a game second to More Joyous (More Than Ready) in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes and Albert The Fat (Magic Albert) was runner up to Love Conquers All (Mossman) in the Group 3 Betfair Stakes) on Saturday’s Caulfield Cup program, Bureaucracy, the sire of their dams, was put down at Stuart Lamont’s Kooringal stud near Wagga Wagga, NSW.
The death of Bureaucracy at the age of 24 closed off a fine career as a racehorse and, from books of modest quality, as a sire.
Born in New Zealand in 1987 after the mating there of Lord Ballina, a Bletchingly sire inbred 3x3 to Star Kingdom, and from an Oncidium mare,Tulla Doll, he did his racing in Australia, appearing 12 times for five wins, including the George Ryder (1500m) in Sydney and the Ascot Vale (1200m) in Melbourne, and five Group race seconds, including the Futurity (1400m) at Caulfield and Lightning (1000m) at Flemington.
His performances at three saw Bureaucracy accoladed Champion Middle Distance 3YO, but leading sprinter may have been more applicable. A second in the Bill Stutt over 1614m at Moonee Valley was his longest placing.
Retired from sire use in January, Bureaucracy went through three NSW stud’s, starting off at Lockyersleigh, a stud near Goulburn owned by the tragically deceased Tony Onions. A brief tenure at Yarraman Park at Scone was followed by his move to Kooringal.
Bureaucracy’s nineteen seasons of use have supplied over 700 living foals for 448 runners, 283 winners and earners of $12.5million.
Mostly tough, sound performers, they have included Court’s In Session (14 wins, $1,402,425, STC George Ryder Stakes-Gr.1, AJC Expressway Stakes-Gr.2 twice, second AJC Doncaster-Gr.1, Chipping Norton Stakes-Gr.1), Mr Bureaucrat (11 wins, $833,876, BTC Doomben Cup-Gr.1, QTC Sir Byrne Hart Stakes-Gr,.2), Noircir (9 wins, $525,935, VRC Hardy Brothers Classic-Gr.2, SAJC Sedgwick Classic-Gr.2) and Nornal Practice (8 wins, $305,553, STC Ajax Quality-Gr.3, MRC Sandown Stakes-Gr.3; third VRC Newmarket-Gr.1).
The honour board for the progeny of his broodmares is headed by Sister Madly (winner AJC Frederick Clissold Stakes-Gr.3, MRC How Now Stakes-Gr.3, second AJC Flight Stakes-Gr.1, MVRC Manikato Stakes-Gr.1, MRC Tristarc Stakes-Gr.2), her illustrious half-sister Silent Witness (El Moxie (USA); a world champion sprinter who won 18 races, 17 in Hong Kong and one in Japan, earning over $9million) and Albert the Fat (10 wins, $655,275, BTC Cup-Gr.1, QTC Paralympic Cup, second AJC The Shorts-Gr.2, MRC Betfair Stakes-Gr.2).
