NSW Based Mosayter Sire Of Week In The West

Mosayter, the powerfully bred son of Storm Cat and the Mr. Prospector winner Bashayer, who transferred last year from Western Australia to Louise Ellis’s new Argyle Thoroughbreds stud at Panuara near Orange, NSW, left a legacy behind from restricted earlier use that sees him challenge as Sire of the Week in the West for the first week of November.

It was a week in which he supplied winners of three races at Perth’s Ascot, the 4-year-old geldings Mr Moet, one who backed up from success over 2200m on their Melbourne Cup day program to take one at 2100m on Saturday, and Solsay, the second leg of a double at the latter meeting.

In addition the year younger gelding Roman Nose was a long head second at provincial Northam. The Mosayter trio were so well respected, they were sent out as favourite for their races.

All have Star Kingdom in their maternal pedigrees. Mr. Moet, a winner of five of nine starts since mid March, to start with, is from Marlock Miss, a non-winner by Karioi Star, a Kaoru Star performer who at two won three races, including the AJC Breeders’ Plate and Illawarra Classic.

Winner in his six appearances of three races, including a 1.75 lengths success on Saturday, and second and third once each, Solsay is from Fimdal, a winner at Pinjarra (1200m) and a Perth second who sold as a yearling for $1,000.

Fimdal is by Fimiston, a winner of 13 of 24 starts in the west, including nine stakes, got by the Oncidium AJC Derby winner Gold Brick, one who stood at the Harris family’s Holbrook stud, Widden Valley, from a Planet Kingdom mare. Fimiston left 190 winners, including two successful at Group1 level, from use in the West,

Solsay’s grandam Kevandal was a sister by Golden Slipper winner Pago Pago to Perth Listed winner Walenska and they were inbred 2x4 to Matrice, a good class Australian sprinter miler who won 27 of 45 starts. Pago Pago started his stud career in America, but was repatriated to Australia when he was twenty.

Besides Mr Moet and Solstay, Mosayter (2011 fee $4,400) has included among his Western Australian bred performers the Perth winners Shajezar (two stakes placings), Mickey Drippin, Final Cut, My Sweet Lil, Dontloitermosoyter and Rose. Louise Ellis can be reached on 0427 899 827 or (02) 6366 4234.
